On Saturday, February 1st, the Izaak Walton League proudly hosted the Pathways to Adventure Council for an engaging and educational workshop focused on Outdoor Ethics and the Outdoor Ethics Guide Position. This inspiring event brought together Scouts and Scout Leaders to deepen their understanding of conservation principles while actively participating in hands-on stewardship efforts.

A Day of Learning and Action
The four-hour workshop was packed with valuable insights and activities designed to reinforce the importance of outdoor ethics. Participants explored:
The Outdoor Code and its guiding principles. Leave No Trace, TREAD Lightly!, and the Land Ethic, are crucial components of responsible outdoor behavior.
The Outdoor Ethics Awareness and Action Awards Program on the way Scouts can earn recognition for their conservation efforts.
The Outdoor Ethics Guide provides Scouts with leadership skills and responsibilities to promote ethical outdoor behavior within their units. Scouts who completed this portion received a learning certificate and an Outdoor Ethics Guide patch.
Resources for further training in Leave No Trace, TREAD Lightly!, and BSA outdoor ethics.
An introduction to the prestigious Distinguished Conservation Service Award, inspiring Scouts to take on meaningful conservation projects in their communities.
Cleanup in Action
Beyond the classroom, the workshop provided for the Scouts to put their knowledge into practice. Thanks to cooperative weather, attendees participated in a cleanup project in partnership with Cleanup Giveback, led by founder Donna Adams, where they recovered over 24 bags of trash along River Road. This real-world application of outdoor ethics reinforced the importance of stewardship and sustainability.

Making a Lasting Impact
This workshop not only educated Scouts on outdoor ethics but also empowered them to become advocates for environmental responsibility. By fostering a deeper connection to nature and providing the tools to lead by example the event successfully encouraged the next generation of conservation leaders.
The Izaak Walton League extends a heartfelt thank you to all Scouts, leaders, and volunteers who participated. Your dedication to outdoor ethics and conservation makes a difference in protecting our natural world for future generations. We look forward to hosting more events that inspire action and environmental stewardship!
